1O. TREASURES OF BROTHER JOHN : WITCHES, HERBS

The monks brought back table and chairs  to shed. Then children and animals moved to shed again. Monks began to talk about brother John :

He was a great traveler an exploerer. He observed the customs and life of safage peoples aroud the world, especialy their faith. These people did not have churches all the time. Masters of faith were dealt  with by soerces there otherwise known as shamans. Were going to show you some  of John treasures from his research.

They opened the chest and first took John’s nootebok and said : Look, here John wrote down hosw he saw and heard from the wild peoples, also fairy tales that they told their children.

Reni and Elon looked  at notebok, written in small handwritting and dried strange flowers were folded as bookmarks.

Eusebius said : Bother John took also a lot pictures and a dozen films, you will see its in another time.  Now  we will show you the different things used by these savage peoples. And the monks showed  the masks and costumes used by witches. The masks  were made of wood witch featchers, beads, animal teetch, shells, strings, Their sorcerers clothers were often made of animals skins and there were also many colorfu feathers, necklaces made of animal teeth and bones.

Trolly and Fyfy were afraid of these things because  smell unknown, animals hid under table.

Monk Ernest carefully packed all these things back into paper sacks and put  them in crate. Eusebius took out the chest and now  showed  the various sticks that the shamans used to swing whed they danced or say incantations. Some of there sticks were named tothems and were religious crests of a given tribe.

Eusebius said :Sorcerers also dealt with curing people from various diseases. They used selected plants for treatment. They cooked plants and gave eat and drink, made compresses of leaves on diseases area. Brother John noted names of these plants and how it be used, He photographed these plants, dried and put them beetwen pages of special notebooks called herbariums.

Reni said :  I will aso dry flowers and leaves from meadows, gardens and forests. Mrs. Susy and my mom wil tell me their names and I write it there.  Mrs.Susy cured her son with herbs according to the witch doctor’s instructions.

Elon added: We also use plants fo healing. We drink mint’s tee when we have stomache, Fyfy the pig squealed : my mom  told us to eat nettles and wild stawberry leaves in forest. And she  did not allow  eat some plants because they are poisonous.

The monk Eusebius  explained : A  lo tof medicines are made from plants..There is saying that God gave people a plant  for every disease, but we don’t  know always about it. Wild animals, when they are in pain,often eat selected plants, they know this from parents.

Euebius told children that is  almost evening and they all went to the car. Monks drove children and animals to their homes.

The parents listened with great interest to children stories about all treasures of brother John and were proud of their children.

Fyfy the pig told everything to Mrs, Susy and she was very curious and moved by this story, Even Susy’s goats listened  to this story too.
