1. THE BOYS HAD A DIABOLICAL IDEA
Henry and Teddy were in their teens at the time and looked at the world troughthe glasses of skepticism and rebelion. They ware fascinated inter alia by the figure of a certain man no longer young, whom they met on the streets of their city.They met this man alone always,slightly hunched, with a few days of stubble on his face and hair that should havebeen trimmed a long time ago.
Once they followed him stealthily. It turned out that man’s name was Joseph and he lived alone on the ground floor of multi-family house, reborn from the street witha small, neglected garden. It was summer and the man was leaving the windowwide open.
The boys crept close the window and peeked inside. Mr. Joseph just was eating a modest dinner and listening to the radio. The radio was turned to the Free Europe station, hated by the Polish goverment but secretly listenedto by many citizens. There were plenty of books everywhere, a large table with two chairs, a bed and large wardrobe.
After dinner Mr. Joseph turned off the radio, knelt on the floor and began to pray loudly and fervently. It was not a standard prayer. Mr.Joseph told God daily experiences and reflections, most of which were incomprehensible to the boys.
And these boys just had a diabolical idea that they discussed at they slowly walked home. They were ready to implement this idea after checking that Mr.Joseph spends his evening in the same ritual way.
When the next day after dinner the man washed dishes, Henry walked trough the window to Joseph’s apartament and scoesl up, and hid in wardrobe.
When Mr. Joseph began to pray, Henry opened door of wardrobe, curled his hand into a trumpet and said trough it : Joseph, what are you going to tell me today ?
Mr Joseph nervously began to look around his room. However, because he was hard of hearing in one ear, he couldn’t locatewhere the voice was coming from. After a while, he continued to pray.
Henry spoke again : Joseph, you sinned today !
Them man got up from his knees and began to approach the wardrobe.
Then Henry jumped out of gardrobe, quickly ran to the wi and jumped outide. Both boys laughed on loud and they went away down the street.
Since then, Mr.Joseph has rarely opened his window. And whe he saw young boys, he avoided them..
2. NEIGHBOR’S JOKE
Mr. Leon was a young light-hearted man and led a rather revelatory life. His friends often sleptin his apartament, having long duscussions, listening to music and drinking alcohol.
Then Leon forgot that he lived with his aling mother and that he had to serveher dinner. Leon’s mom was a patient woman, so she didn’t disturb her son’s amused friends. So, when Leon once entered mother’s room, he found she dead.
Leon experienced the dead of his mom very hard. Because he loved her very much and felt now remorse for not caring enough for his mom. He stopped inviting his friends and was often alone in the evenings in hi apartament.
At that time, every day 6 p.m. Leon experienced a strange phenomenon. In the hallway outside door, Leon heard his mother’s small, suffling footsteps. The footseps approached the door of Leon’s apartament, stood there and then returned. When Leon once dared to open the door, no one was there. Leon invited his friend to be present at these events and his friend heard the footsteps and no one after opening the door.
It is not known how long this phenomenon has been repeated, because Leon has repleaced his apartament a smaller on the same street. There no longer his mother’s footsteps. Anyway Leon returned to his old, revelatory lifestyle.
After a few years , Leon’s friend accidentally found ot what the cause of this phenomenon was. This was revelated to him by a drunken neighbor from Leon’s previous apartament. The neigbor’s wife very fond of Leon’s mother and felt sorry for her plight. She decided to take revenge on Leon.
Together with husband she constructed a bogeyman. On a small itape recorder they recorded a steeps. They placed the device in hallway above Leon’s door and they turned them on remotely for usig the remote control.
Leon’s friend never sait this secret to Leon. He was already at odds with him, because Leon clearly abused alcohol.
